MICHIGAN TOURISM VIRTUAL TRAINING ACADEMY
As you probably already know, the first two prepaid, self-paced Michigan Tourism Virtual Training Academy (MTVTA) courses “Overcoming Challenging Service Situations in Tourism” and “Communications to Develop Relationships in Tourism” are available for your use.  Don’t forget that upon completion of these courses, you or your employees may contact the academy to receive certificates of accomplishment!

Our third course “Advancing Your Service Expertise in Tourism” is a bit behind schedule and will be released in early January.  We have been working closely with several tourism leaders in Michigan to bring you five business examples, illustrating the importance of customer service.

BEEFREEWAY TRAINING TOPIC OF THE MONTH
“Writing a Marketing Plan: Creative Strategy” - Perhaps you’ve created a marketing plan many times.  (Or perhaps you’ve never created one.)   You may think you know all the basic elements of marketing and how to write a marketing plan.  Yet after finishing one, you’ve often felt that something was not right even though it contained all the required elements.  There may have been times when your senior management criticized that your marketing plan did not match the company’s strategy, or that the marketing plan contained conflicting elements, or that the marketing tactics were not reasonable.  Perhaps during the presentation of your plan, management seemed to lose interest in the plan because the contents were unorganized or boring.  You’ve wondered what you could do to enhance your skills in writing/creating good marketing plans…

Look no further!  In this month’s featured BeeFreeway training module, “Writing a Marketing Plan: Creative Strategy,” you'll discover the skills that can help you match your product (or service) with your target market and determine exactly what the competitive advantages of your particular product (or service) are. You'll explore price-setting strategies that will help make your product (or service) a success. You’ll also learn techniques to make your marketing plan presentation even more professional.

MICHIGAN TRAVEL INTENTIONS INDEX
Michigan Travel Intentions Indexis derived from the data generated by a monthly phone survey of 400 households, selected at random, from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and Ontario. The index is a measure of the difference between respondents who expect to take "more" versus "fewer" pleasure trips to Michigan in the next 12 months. Comparisons are made to the last month and the last 12 months.

12/20/02 – The MTI Index registered 133.7 in November 2002 and rose to 136.0 in December 2002.  (We can report December’s data early, due to a regular lapse in data collection during the last two weeks of the year resulting from the semester break.)  MTIIcontinues to mirror the Consumer Confidence Index, with travel intentions increasing slightly similarly to consumers’ confidence in the nation’s economy.
