MICHIGAN TOURISM VIRTUAL TRAINING ACADEMY
Michigan’s on-line tourism academy has some exciting opportunities under development!

As you probably already know, the first prepaid, self-paced Michigan Tourism Virtual Training Academy (MTVTA) course, “Overcoming Challenging Service Situations in Tourism,” is now available at the academy’s portal web site.  Log into
www.tourismcenter.msu.edu/MTVTA to check it out.

The academy’s second course “Communications to Develop Relationships in Tourism” is also nearly completed.  It contains customized Michigan case studies that the academy has developed especially for you.  We’ll be sure to notify you as soon as it launches!

Advancing Your Service Expertise in Tourism,” will also be released before the end of the year.  We have been working closely with several tourism leaders in Michigan to bring you five business examples, illustrating the importance of customer service.  We’re excited about being able to bring you this new example of on-line learning.

And don’t forget that upon completion of these courses, you or your employees may contact the academy to receive certificates of achievement!

BEEFREEWAY TRAINING TOPIC OF THE MONTH
"Sales Motivation" - Imagine that you are the manager of a sales department.  You work very hard and for many hours, but you often wonder if you are being as effective as possible.  Sometimes you feel as if you are under-utilizing your available resources, and you fear that your sales team could be more motivated.  You ask yourself questions such as, “could I take on more customers and clients?” or ”do I need more and bigger sales to make my business more profitable?” or “is business coming in fast enough to meet my goals?”  If some of these situations and questions apply to you, you’ll definitely want to take a look into this month’s BeeFreeway course!

Sales motivation is a primary factor in a sales representative's success. The people who do best in sales have strong internal direction and motivation.  In this month’s featured BeeFreeway training module, “Sales Motivation”, you’ll learn how to recognize the characteristics displayed by top sales performers.  This course is applicable to tourism industry selling situations, and it can help new salespeople to develop their initial selling skills, as well as assisting experienced salespeople looking for new ideas or a new approach.

You or your employees may click here to begin the FREE* online learning course “
Sales Motivation”.  (*This software has been licensed and prepaid by the Michigan Virtual University, a unit of the Michigan Department of Career Development.)
MICHIGAN TRAVEL INTENTIONS INDEX
Michigan Travel Intentions Indexis derived from the data generated by a monthly phone survey of 400 households, selected at random, from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and Ontario. The index is a measure of the difference between respondents who expect to take  "more" versus "fewer" pleasure trips to Michigan in the next 12 months. Comparisons are made to the last month and the last 12 months.

11/26/02 – The Michigan Travel Intentions Index registered 135.6 in October 2002, compared to 138.1 in September and 141.2 in August.  This means that fewer survey respondents intend to travel in Michigan in the next 12 months.  The trend exhibited by the MTIIseems to be mirroring the recent slide seen in the Consumer Confidence Index.
