A New Magazine for Weekend Getaway Planning – wkndTRIPS
By Meegan Holland, Editor – Phone: 517-487-8888 x:231

A new travel magazine is targeting a fast-paced crowd that loves to travel, eat out and grab some nightlife and culture. And while this group has the means to hit the road, they don’t always have the time.

Welcome to wkndTRIPS magazine, a high-gloss publication that launched recently.  It focuses on great two- to four-day getaways in the Great Lakes region. The best of Michigan, Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland and Toronto—and all points in between—will be fair game for story topics.

The staff that developed wkndTRIPS, produced by Grand Rapids-based Booth Publishing, devoted more than a year of research to choosing just the right demographic.  The target audience: Ages 30-54 with household incomes of $125,000-plus. The result: an exclusive list of 90,000 readers in metropolitan Detroit and 60,000 in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Flint.

The website wkndtrips.com provides content to readers who aren’t on the exclusive recipient list.  A full media kit is available online.

The magazine is the perfect vehicle to reach an elite audience that loves both the finer and funkier things in life.  Stories will range from museum exhibitions to outsider-art galleries, downhill ski resorts to mountain biking trails, upscale dining to divey diners with character, and posh department stores to tiny boutiques.

Talented photographers and writers are contributing to the magazine, edited by Meegan Holland, bureau chief of Booth Newspapers in Lansing for 16 years.  The first issue contains stories on the Chicago jazz scene, Old Mission Peninsula’s Chateau Chantal, Golf Digest’s best courses, Toronto theater and family-friendly Indianapolis. Jef Mallett, well-known for his nationally syndicated comic strip “Frazz,” is contributing a cartoon for each issue.

Advertising sales are headed up by Dan Sippel (dan@wkndtrips.com), who has built a strong base of tourism advertising for Booth Newspapers’ Sunday travel sections for 21 years.
