03-26-04 – According to the Michigan Department of Treasury the lodging industry sales tax collections in October 2003 were $2,797,591—down from $4,009,507 in October 2002, in November 2003 were $2,889,415—down from $2,982,360 in November 2002, and in December 2003 were $2,743,217—down from $2,882,162 in December 2002.

The total sales tax collections reported to Treasury by the lodging industry for the year 2003 were $37,885,089, down from $38,681,320 for the year 2002, down from $42,817,935 for the year 2001, and down from $46,585,075 for the year 2000.

01-28-04 – Michigan’s lodging industry sales tax collections in July 2003 were $3,626,365—up from $3,555,738 in July 2002, in August 2003 were $4,206,152—up from $4,074,624 in August 2002, and in September 2003 were $3,870,395—down from $4,358,419 in September 2002.

11-21-03 – Nothing new to report.

10-10-03 – The Michigan lodging industry sales tax collections in June 2003 were $3,634,726 as compared to $3,146,397 in June 2002.  Hopefully, we will see this increase develop into a positive trend throughout the entire summer season.

09-02-03 – SPECIAL MID-ISSUE UPDATE: The Michigan lodging industry sales tax collections were 44.21% higher in April 2003 than in April 2002 and 2.16% lower in May 2002 than in May 2003.

08-28-03 – Nothing new to report. We expect to receive data for April, May and June next week.

07-31-03 – Nothing new to report.

07-03-03 – To review the lodging industry sales tax collections reported to the Michigan Department of Treasury between October 2002 and March 2003:  Oct. 2002 was 2.91% higher than Oct. 2001, Nov. 2002 was 10.84% lower than Nov. 2001, Dec. 2002 was 7.81% lower than Dec. 2001, Jan. 2003 was 6.72% lower than Jan. 2002, Feb. 2003 was 2.83% lower than Feb. 2002, and March 2003 was 2.15% lower than March 2003.  Michigan’s lodging industry is still not seeing the recovery they’ve been hoping for.
