Springtime Splendor Week is Here!
By Joe Breidenstein
In a month or so, even winter enthusiasts will be ready for the cold, snowy season to end. Someone in every household will yearn for a break from the wintery blahs. Take heart, though, because a “cabin fever” tonic is as simple as getting in your car. It’s not necessary to take a few weeks off, spend a lot of money for a trip to Alabama or Florida, jet off to Mexico, or go on a Caribbean cruise. Just look around you, because Michigan has something to offer for everyone. Spring, Michigan’s forgotten season, is waiting for you to rediscover and enjoy. In October 2000, the Legislature approved a resolution designating the last week of April each year Springtime Splendor Week in Michigan. Efforts are ongoing to consider waiving Mackinac Bridge tolls during part of Springtime Splendor Week. This would present many opportunities for publicity on travel to the U.P. and it's unique recreational, historical and cultural offerings. It would also draw attention to the many attractions throughout Michigan during the Spring season. During this period of economic stress, the need for a getaway is especially important. Michigan’s “spring travel tonic” is affordable, as the early season offers terrific savings. Discounts and specials abound on lodging, dining, shopping and recreation. As for weather, the warm, refreshing days and cool, comfortable evenings are ideal. Pack a few t-shirts, sweatshirts and a windbreaker, and you’re ready. The relaxing, uncrowded travel conditions are a relief compared to hectic summer travel. For more information about how you can create and encourage promotions and specials to celebrate Michigan’s exciting springtime season, please contact Joe Breidenstein at 231-535-2227.
