Governor Granholm’s Response to Dr. Holecek

On December 18, 2002, Governor-Elect Jennifer Granholm addressed the following letter to MTB Editor Don Holecek in response to the MSU Faculty Perspectives paper,
Growing Michigan’s Tourism Industry.

Dear Dr. Holecek:

“Few will have the greatness to bend history; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation … It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is thus shaped.  Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”

-- Robert F. Kennedy,  June 6, 1966.

Thank you very much for the presentation of Michigan’s Opportunities and Challenges: MSU Faculty Perspectives forwarded to the Granholm-Cherry Transition Team.  The compilation of information containing critical issues, problems and opportunities facing the State of Michigan will assist us with implementing our plan to protect Michigan’s families and educate our children.

I believe deeply in the power of good government to provide quality service for Michigan residents and it is evident that you share our spirit of commitment to make government work for all the citizens it serves.

Again, thank you very much for the time, effort and partnership.  Your insights are invaluable to the policy working groups, to me and for One Michigan as we transition into state government.

Gratefully,

Jennifer M. Granholm
Governor-Elect
