Industry Quick Poll Results

In the September 5 issue of Michigan Tourism Business, we asked, “Has your summer 2002 business volume been…better, worse, or about the same as last summer?”  There were 107 votes cast:  Better - 38 votes, (36% of respondents); Worse - 41 votes, (38% of respondents); About the same - 28 votes, (26% of respondents).

Our quick and rather unscientific analysis indicates that the results were a bit inconsistent across the state.  Most of the respondents in the northern and western parts of the Lower Peninsula said their business volume was “better” than last summer’s, but there were also some “worse” and “about the same” votes in those areas, as well.  Respondents in the Detroit area consistently said their summer business volume was worse than last summer’s.  Responding campgrounds and hotels statewide indicated that their summer business volume was “better” than or “about the same” as last summer’s.
