Online Training for Michigan's Small Tourism Business Community

The tourism business is a people business.  Each year tourists spend about $11.5 billion in Michigan, which generates a payroll of about $3.5 billion for nearly 160,000 Michigan residents employed in the travel and tourism industry.  Hence, the essential assets of every tourism business include its customers and employees.

However, one of the biggest challenges the industry faces is high employee turnover.  This is due in part to the seasonality of many travel and tourism related businesses within Michigan such as campgrounds, parks, and resorts.  Business owners often consume extensive time and money seeking effective strategies and alternatives to recruit and retain their employees.

In this first issue of Michigan Tourism Business (MTB), a prepaid online training module comprising basic tools, techniques, and knowledge of hiring and retaining the best service professionals is introduced to Michigan tourism business personnel who are interested in enhancing their human resources skills.  Sponsored by BeeFreeway and Michigan Virtual University, the modules include live human voice, eye-catching slides, and simple mouse-click operations that will easily take you through the training overview, contents, role-plays, exercises, and evaluations at your own learning pace.
