Move to Intrusion Prevention - Recommendations for Migration
an Analyst's Words of Wisdom

The demands of e-business in the extended enterprise have stretched the corporate network back through the supply chain and forward to channel partners and customer networks. Securing the communications infrastructure requires accurate enforcement of security policy, high performance for increasing traffic loads, and low latency to complete transactions. The trusted security model of network intrusion detection systems reporting alarms to IT for action has become overwhelming. Network security is officially in the sea-change from passive network intrusion detection to active network intrusion prevention. Network Intrusion Detection Systems, NIDS, were designed to

Seminar: "Optimize your IDS, and Investigate Intrusion Prevention Strategies"

sponsored by The Yankee Group and Top Layer

The Yankee Group and Top Layer have teamed up to present an interactive educational forum. Join other Security and IT professionals as you learn to:
- Maximize nIDS investment and total cost of ownership with increased performance.
- Effectively migrate from nIDS to IPS (Intrustion Prevention System).
- Cost effectively extend the life of your IDS.
- Optimize via fewer sensors, reduce false positives, and have your IDS deliver high availability with built-in redundancy.

Federal Network Security Lacking
Is Federal security really worse than Private Sector?

The vote may still be out on whether Federal network security ranks lower than the private sector. According to the General Accounting Office, last year the federal government’s overall network security received failing grades. The highest score of B- went to the Social Security Administration for their efforts to strengthen their systems. Some sources point out that large corporations suffer many of the same ills as the government, and have similar instances of cyber attacks. Click here for CSO Magazine article on the issue.

What about Worms?
Joe Magee Files

Joe Magee, CSO at Top Layer, recently answered CIO's technical questions regarding worms. See answers to: What kinds of trends are you seeing in the development of new worms? How to prevent an infection? Will a firewall really help defend against a worm or other types of malware? Should I filter out executable files?  Information on Predicting and Tackling Worms.

White Paper: Optimizing nIDS
Reduce False Positives, Maximize ROI

Network Intrusion Detection Systems (nIDS) play a key security role in many enterprise and government networks. Although they are ideal for detecting attacks and helping to monitor network activity, users have found them to have many pitfalls including false positives, overloaded log files, and require dedicated resources. Learn how to overcome these issues and cost effectively extend the life of your nIDS with a White Paper.
