Mike W.- Found Jesus in 1968, 4,000 kilometers from home
My name is Mike W. When I was 19 years old I joined the US Navy. Within 2 months, my wife told me she was leaving me for another man. I was 4,000 kilometers from home and felt alone, abandoned, empty, and completely hopeless . To try to deal with my feelings I started drinking any time I was not on duty. I was constantly either drunk or sick from the alcohol. This went on for several months.
One Sunday morning I woke up and I did not feel sick from the drinking the night before. I did not know why. Somehow I knew I should get dressed and take a walk out to the town next to the Navy base. I walked for a few minutes and I saw a small church. Music was coming out from the open doors. Somehow I knew I should go into the church.
The people in the church welcomed me. After the church service was over they invited me to come back again. Each time I visited the church the people showed that they cared for me and they shared the love of Jesus Christ with me. They told me that He would take away the pain I felt and He would fill the emptiness I felt. I stopped the drinking.
The people shared that: - all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. - Jesus, the Son of God, died for my sins. - accepting Jesus is the only way to be acceptable to God. - all I have to do is ask for forgiveness of my sins and ask Jesus to come into my life, and He will be with me always.
In early spring of 1968 I accepted Jesus. He has been with me ever since and will always be with me, even after death. I know I will never be alone; Jesus can fill any emptiness I could feel: Jesus knows what I need and gives me hope. This gift of forgiveness and everlasting life is absolutely free. All you have to do is ask for it. Jesus loves you and me enough to have died for us.
Jesus has never disappointed me. He loves me and He will take care of me, just as a shepherd takes care of his sheep.
