Robert L.- God made a way to cure my cancer
My name is Robert L. On May 17, 1993 I underwent surgery for “A” plastic Thyroid cancer (the worst of the 3 types of thyroid cancer). This type of cancer is very rare especially in men and very aggressive.
When the my doctors came to talk to me, my oncologist said my odds were at best 10% to live over 6 months. My surgeon said my odds were 0%. He would not remove my tracheotomy tube for around two months because he said that he had a lot of trouble getting it in and the cancer would be back. He did not want to take a chance on replacing it.
I could not talk so I wrote a note to my wife. I ask her to call a list of elders that knew how to pray. We had a prayer (and oil) service, in my hospital room (James chapter 5). Also, they got me on prayer lists in several states. One had a seminary pray for me during the morning devotion and I was placed on their prayer list.
On day 12, I left the hospital (my surgeon said I was his 5th patient with “A” plastic thyroid cancer and the first to walk out of the hospital). Because the chemo kills your white blood cells, I was told that if I ran a fervor, to call the doctor ASAP. I could have a bad infection. Three days out of the hospital I ran a 103-104 temperature. I was rushed to the ER to be checked and for blood work. They finally decided that the cause was the cancer was dieing in mass and the decaying cells caused the temperature. God made a way to cure me of cancer.
Money was a major problem. I was not able to work for 6 months and my wife Wanda did not work for 2 months, as I required 24-hour care. But God made a way. Wanda’s boss paid her for the time she was out of work. Also every time I went to the mailbox I would find $50 here a $100 there. I can recall receiving at least three (3) $300 gifts. Two were from churches I had never been to including Cherokee Baptist Church in Woodstock, GA. Another was out of state. God made a way and we were better off financially for those 6 months than the 6 before and after.
My doctors took no credit for my survival. One repeatedly called me his “miracle”. They both said it was nothing that they did, God made a way.
There is more but time will not allow me to tell you the whole story but to sum it all up, God made a way.
