New York 2011 - Panamera Turbo S and Panamera S Hybrid

Marking a U.S. premiere at the New York International Auto Show, Porsche today showed two new versions of its Panamera four-door sports sedan, including the company’s most fuel-efficient car ever — the 2012 Panamera S Hybrid — and its highest-performance Panamera ever, the 2012 Panamera Turbo S.

The Turbo S generates 550 horsepower — 50 more than the Panamera Turbo. The torque has been boosted from 516 lb-ft to 553 lb-ft. The automaker said the increase in power in the Panamera Turbo S is the result of a quicker, more responsive turbo response and modified engine control unit. It can reach 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and has a top-track speed of 190 mph.

The Panamera Turbo S will have some exclusive coloring options with a new two-tone black and cream leather interior available at launch and an Agate gray and cream interior color combination will be available as an option later in the year. On the outside, Agate Gray Metallic will be offered only on the Turbo S adding to the 16-color palate currently offered on all Panamera models.

The new Porsche Panamera Turbo S will have a base MSRP of $173,200 (excluding destination).

The debut of the Panamera S Hybrid adds another important chapter to the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy of committing to build new cars that strive to deliver sportier performance with more fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

Without sacrificing high-performance or luxury and comfort, this new Panamera model produces 380 horsepower with fuel consumption of only 6.8 L/100 km on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), making it the most fuel efficient Porsche of all time.

The new Panamera S Hybrid looks similar to the gas version. Its power-train system is comprised of a gas engine (3.0L supercharged V6 engine with power output of 333hp) and an electric motor (maximum power of 47hp, or 34kw), with integrated power reaching 380hp. The electric motor can function as an alternator and a starter. When the electric motor works alone, the car can run for two kilometers, and the top speed can reach 85km/h.

Official EPA fuel economy estimates for the U.S. will be available closer to the car’s on-sale date late this year.
