The 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster is the fourth model in Porsche history to bear the legendary Speedster name. The original Porsche Speedster debuted in 1953 as a roadster edition of the iconic Porsche 356 sports coupe. Sought after by collectors, the 50’s-era Porsche Speedster defines the brand for many enthusiasts, and its enduring popularity persuaded Porsche to build the second Speedster, based on the 911 Carrera, in 1988, and the third in 1993/1994.
For 2011, the two-seater 911 Speedster (MSRP $204,000) has a number of unique features that set it apart from other members of the 911 family. The vehicle is instantly identifiable thanks to the characteristic Speedster “double-bubble” hardcover that conceals the roadster’s manual soft top. The Speedster’s windshield is lower and more aggressively raked than that of other convertible 911 models, and the vehicle features the widened body typically
found on all-wheel drive 911 models.
Specially developed by Porsche Exclusive, the department dedicated to the “individualization of all Porsche cars and limited production models,” the 2011 Speedster comes in Pure Blue, a color developed specifically for it. An optional Carrara White hue can also be had. The vehicle’s windshield trim and headlight rings have been tinted black to match its darkened front headlamp surrounds. Functional additions to the Speedster’s appearance consist of a below-the-bumper front spoiler and air ducts sliced into the back of the rear wheel arches.
Inside the 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster, drivers will find most of the options from the 911 catalogue included as standard equipment. Notable are the vehicle’s hand-finished black trim and upscale, leather, adaptive sport seats, which feature a checkerboard inset designed to evoke a racing feel, along with side bolsters color-keyed to the Speedster’s paint.
The 911 Speedster’s Mechanical Package is worthy of the Speedster name. The sportscar features a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that generates 408 hp. This gives it a 23 hp advantage over the 911 Carrera S convertible. When fitted with the Sport Chrono Plus Package, the Speedster can reach 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.
The Speedster includes the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (with steering wheel-mounted paddleshifters), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB). A rear-axle limited-slip differential lock is also standard.
The 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster arrives in time for the 25th anniversary of Porsche Exclusive, which will be celebrated later in 2011. A mere 356 Speedsters will be built worldwide with only 100 making their way to the U.S. Contact us today for more information.
