Governor’s Supporters Out in Force at Stanford Event On March 14th
Santa Clara County Republicans enjoyed a unique opportunity to show their support for Governor Schwarzenegger. MSNBC brought Chris Matthews’ Hardball show to the Stanford University campus for a live show featuring our governor. While several hundred guests were invited to be part of the studio audience, many more showed up outside the auditorium to express their thoughts. Enthusiastic supporters of the Governor and his program of reforms outnumbered the small group of protestors.
Here are a few of the comments offered by those at the event, when asked why they support Governor Schwarzenegger’s efforts.
Nick Dinh, volunteer team leader, San Jose “California has elected Arnold for change and this is it…this is the event that defines change. And it’s about time that we reform to save the state.”
Chris Moe, student, Cupertino “There is youth support for Republicans in this highly Democratic area. I believe in Gov. Schwarzenegger’s reapportionment, because I think that the current districts unfairly favor the Democrats.”
Pam Stone, volunteer team leader, San Jose “I used to be a Democrat, and I don’t think that the Democrats are for the people anymore. They went away from me—I didn’t go away from them.”
Virginia Chang Kiraly, Bay Area businesswoman “I’m most interested in his education and free market policies, especially merit pay for teachers. Redistricting is also crucial to keep things in balance.”
Colleen Coghlan, GOP intern, Santa Clara “When Davis was re-elected, I lost faith in politics in general. Arnold brought a fresh attitude and renewed my interest in politics. He also brought in a new energy that California hasn’t seen in a long time."
Rebecca Baltodano, volunteer, Santa Clara “He has courage that I admire. If the Democrats don’t cooperate, he’s willing to go to the people.”
Victoria Stodden, student, Cupertino “I support Arnold because he has courage and is streamlining California’s government. He’s making it happen and we need it.”
