Jane Howard Selected for County Board of Education
The Santa Clara County Board of Education is the elected governing body of the Santa Clara County Office of Education (COE). Its seven members serve four-year terms and are elected from different regions of the county.  The Board sets the policies that guide the COE, establishes the operating budget, and appoints the County Superintendent.

Of the dozen people who applied to fill the term of District 7 trustee Don Kruse, who resigned for health reasons, the board chose Jane Howard to fill the position.  Jane is the past president of the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Trustees and interim executive director of the Gilroy Economic Development Corporation.

With an accounting background, Jane, a former businesswoman, has dedicated many volunteer hours to the community. In addition to her service for the Gilroy Unified School District, Jane has served as president of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the South Valley Hospital Board of Directors, Director of the Gilroy Garlic Festival, President of the Leadership Gilroy Foundation, and many more community associations too numerous to mention.

In addition to her many civic responsibilities, Jane is an elected member of the Santa Clara County Republican Party and a delegate and member of the California Republican Party.  She has also served as campaign treasurer for Supervisor Don Gage, as well as, several Gilroy mayors and city council members.

Keen Butcher, Chairman of the Santa Clara County Republican Party, praised her selection, “Jane Howard is an excellent choice to serve our county as a member of the County Board of Education.  Her background and experience will be a great asset as the board deals with financially troubled districts and underperforming schools. Jane is a great example of another high quality Republican serving our community.  The Santa Clara County Republican Party looks forward to supporting other quality individuals for election to local school boards.”
