National and State Support for County Party
Ken Mehlman, Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), and Duf Sundheim, Chairman of the California Republican Party where enthusiastically cheered by local supporters and grassroots volunteers on their visit to San Jose on April 14, 2005. Speaking to the group, Mehlman emphasized the importance of recruiting good people who can win school board elections today and run for state and federal office tomorrow. Talking about the successful strategy that gave President Bush the largest percentage of popular vote since LBJ; and the unheard of, since 1932, increase in both House and Senate seats in the re-election of a president; Mehlman vowed to help the local party as the RNC successfully did in Ohio. “The Republicans of Santa Clara County should be greatly encouraged that both the national and state Republican Party Organizations stand ready to help us succeed in electing Republicans to local office,” Keen Butcher commented. He continued, “As the Republican Party of the 14th largest county in the nation, we will gather the resources and do what it takes to increase the number of Republicans that win one of the 400+ elected offices in this county.”
