Most shoppers know Buick for their value-priced luxury vehicles and industry-leading warranty. The folks at Buick have earned a reputation for quality, comfort and dependability—though they’re also working hard to bring their owners even more confidence while they travel.
Keeping owners in touch with assistance, family and friends on the go is a sure way to boost confidence. Working towards this goal, all Buick models employ two cutting-edge communications systems—namely Bluetooth and OnStar.
Bluetooth is sweeping across the mobile communications scene, and is now onboard the Buick Lucerne, Allure and Enclave. The oddly-named technology utilizes a standard ‘language’ adopted by electronics manufacturers which allows their devices to communicate with one another wirelessly.
Using radio frequencies, Bluetooth allows gadgets like an MP3 player, cell phone, PDA or laptop to link with one another after a ‘pairing’ procedure. In the context of a vehicle, drivers with a Bluetooth-equipped phone can pair their handset with the vehicle’s audio system to manage calls more easily.
After pairing, Buick drivers can accept, dismiss and dial phone calls with a single steering-wheel mounted button and simple voice commands. Rather than pull over to dial or chat, the Bluetooth system allows drivers to keep in touch without removing their hands from the wheel or eyes from the road.
With Bluetooth, there’s no need to handle the handset and once set up, the interface between car and phone is completely automatic. Bluetooth is also fantastic for drivers who use their car as a mobile office, and for those who don’t want a ticket for handling their cell phone while driving.
Sometimes, calling friends and loved ones isn’t the priority. When drivers require assistance, directions or emergency help, they can rely on Buick’s OnStar system for aid. All Buick models benefit from the integrated system that was first introduced in the late nineties.
OnStar connects drivers with a real-life advisor at the push of a button. Advisors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are able to help with numerous situations. For instance, they can provide directions, summon medical help, diagnose a check-engine light or even dispatch a tow-truck if you suffer a flat.
Other OnStar functions include a Turn-by-Turn navigation system, and Stolen Vehicle Slowdown. The latter function works to leave car thieves stranded on the side of the road after slowly disabling the engine of a stolen vehicle.
OnStar can even call 911 and transmit vehicle co-ordinates to emergency responders in the case of a crash. Even if the driver isn’t aware of their location, OnStar’s Emergency Crash Response system can make vital information available to EMS personnel-- potentially speeding up rescue efforts.
Best of all, OnStar has its own integrated cellular system and does not depend on other cellular service providers. This means that even if you are in an area with no cell phone reception, OnStar will still function as normal. It’s available to anyone driving a Buick.
