We have been notified by local law enforcement agencies regarding a recent surge in Lexus vehicle thefts in the greater Denver area. Although Lexus vehicles are designed to be the most theft-resistant in the automotive industry, car thieves have discovered that many Lexus owners are keeping their plastic emergency key (see photo) in the glove box with their owner’s manual. The thieves have been breaking into the vehicle through a glass window, finding the emergency key in the glove box and using it to steal the vehicle.
We are advising all Stevinson Lexus customers to please remove the plastic emergency key from your vehicle and keep it in a safe place. Lexus designed this key to be slim enough to fit in your wallet or purse, and to be used in the event you lock your keys in the vehicle. Leaving it in the glove box not only defeats the purpose of this emergency key, but also provides car thieves with the opportunity to steal your Lexus in less than 60 seconds.
If you have any questions regarding this key or how to keep your Lexus safe, please contact your Stevinson Lexus dealership for additional assistance.
