With the launch of the new Jaguar XJ in 2010, Jaguar produced an automobile that redefined the template for luxury performance sedans, blending performance with the finest in craftsmanship. Enhancing the performance side of the balance sheet for 2012, Jaguar introduces optional Speed and Sport Packs for the Jaguar XJ, which unlock the performance potential both stylistically and dynamically. Interior and exterior enhancements in these two optional packages further accentuate the car’s sporting personality.
According to Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, Jaguar Cars, ''A car capable of 174 mph must have certain basic attributes - stability, aerodynamics, prodigious power and as little weight as possible. The XJ is blessed with all these qualities in abundance and with the addition of the Speed Pack it becomes an ever more impressive performance sedan.''
Both packs feature wind-tunnel-tested, functional aerodynamic revisions that result in a top speed increase from 155 mph to 174 mph, resulting in one of the fastest sedans Jaguar has ever produced.
Amazingly, that nine percent increase in top speed was the result of nothing other than aerodynamic improvements and a recalibrated engine management system. At the nose, the packs provide an aerodynamic splitter under the bumper that assists in reducing lift at high speed, and rear decklid lip spoiler allows reduced air turbulence at the trailing edge of the bodywork. The aerodynamic improvements not only result in greater stability at higher speeds, but also preserve the wind-cheating 0.29Cd aerodynamic profile of the standard XJ.
Cosmetic enhancements are also part of the offerings, details that help to distinguish so-equipped sedans. The signature radiator grille receives a gloss black mesh finish, as do the lower air opening and side vents. Both packs have unique 20-inch alloy wheel designs, with red brake calipers signaling the performance potential of the XJ.
Interior revisions are also a part of the overall enhancements, and are unique depending upon the model.
The “Sport & Speed Pack”, available exclusively on the XJ and XJL Supercharged, features new sport seats upholstered in soft grain leather. The sport seats offer an amazing level of adjustability, including power-adjustable side bolsters, which help to tailor the driving position to individual drivers. An active ventilation system delivers heated or chilled air to each front seat. Machined, stainless steel pedals are engraved with the Jaguar script. Sport & Speed Pack equipped cars are offered in two interior themes: Jet Black with Ivory stitching, or a Jet Interior with Ivory seats and Jet stitching. Piano Black veneer is standard; real Carbon Fiber is available as an additional option.
The "Speed Pack", available exclusively on the XJ and XJL Supersport, shares the exterior enhancements of the Sport & Speed Pack but offers a choice of the 20" Venom style wheels exclusive to these packs or the 20" Mataiva style wheels exclusive to the Supersport models. Speed Pack equipped Supersport models are available in an exclusive interior color combination: a Jet Black interior with Red contrasting stitching.
