This months featured
publisher is Technology Review: MITs Magazine of Innovation. iMakeNews interviewed Kathleen Kennedy, the
current publisher and Marketing Research Manager and got her thoughts on newsletter
publishing.
Last November, Technology
Review decided to create a newsletter. The
staff realized that other companies were using newsletters for marketing, and it seemed
like a great way to share information as well as connect with a target audience. Upon doing research, Technology Review came
across iMakeNews and its service seemed to suit many needs.
The service provided assistance with all the stumbling blocks of publishing
newsletters: organization, article
aggregation, distribution, and interactivity.
Kennedy explained that although
she was familiar with publishing on the Web, she really had no background or formal
training in it. She found iMakeNews
service very intuitive and was able to walk through it easily. For someone who new nothing, I was able to
produce a newsletter. I like the way our
newsletter looks. The iMakeNews template is
very clean, said Kennedy.
The continuing debate about
newsletter marketing revolves around whether html or text versions are better. Some think HTML is ridiculous and that you
only need plain text. Some want flash. I am in between, says Kennedy. The beauty of iMakeNews is that both html
and text versions are available. You have a
choice.
Technology Review has
been so pleased with iMakeNews that many more newsletters are planned. The feedback from recipients of the
newsletter has been very positive. (Subscribers)
think the newsletter is a great communications vehicle. Kennedy noted, (The newsletter) puts our
content straight into the e-mailbox of a subscriber.
This is content that might not have been read at the Web site or otherwise.
Kennedy explained that the
favorable feedback from recipients of Technology Reviews newsletter has been
a catalyst to create more specific articles for different audiences. The newsletter service provides a professional way
to attract new customers, share pertinent information, and to generate further interest.
