Make It Interesting
Content 101
by Amy E. Rudolph

Friends and colleagues have asked me to share my thoughts on the most important tips for online writing.  It is difficult to create a comprehensive list, however, I have outlined some basics that may serve to assist you in your electronic initiatives.

Make it interesting

Okay, so it sounds obvious.  But, you would be surprised at how people don’t always understand this concept.  Consider your audience.  Would a group of Star Trek fans find an article on underwater basket weaving interesting?   Probably not.  Try to put yourself in the place of the reader.  If you are writing an article that is geared toward 30 something women, write about topics of interest to 30 something women!  Women in their 30s are probably interested in diet, exercise, child rearing, relationships, and perhaps stress at work.  The beauty of a newsletter is that you only need to come up with a few articles.  You don’t need to fill an entire Web site with 500 pages of information.

More Tips on Producing Material for Your Online Newsletters to come in future issues of “The Stepping Stone.”

Amy E. Rudolph is the marketing manager for iMakeNews.  She has spent seven years writing for business and pleasure.
