For MLB Playoffs, Turner Sports’ ‘Traveling Circus’ Puts on a 29-Ring Show

From the director’s chair inside NEP Denali Summit, it would be easy for Turner Sports director Lonnie Dale to be overwhelmed. The virtual monitor wall he faces is alight with signals from 29 cameras covering every inch of Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. To help him tell the story of the National League Championship Series, he has 22 replay sources, two dozen microphones, six graphics sources, and a crew of 75 people.

CBS Sports Taps CTV for London NFL Game Support

The National Football League is once again jumping across the pond, holding this week’s game between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London’s Wembley Stadium. It will be déjŕ vu all over again for CBS Sports, which handled last season’s game from London with help from CTV OB.

Fox Sports Detroit Gets a New Home (Studio)

Fox Sports Detroit unveiled a studio on Oct. 1, marking the first time that the regional network has a home base for game coverage. The studio, completed in conjunction with the network’s conversion to an all-digital facility, is the result of a multi-year planning and construction plan.

Venue News & Notes: Staples Is Forever

The 10-year relationship between Staples Inc. and AEG, which resulted in the Staples Center of sports-and-entertainment fame, is moving to the next level: forever and ever. Staples’ original naming-rights agreement with AEG has been “extended in perpetuity,” the two companies said. AEG contends that the arrangement is “the first lifetime naming-rights extension for a major-market arena.” The office-supply–store chain promised to pay almost $120 million in 1999 to put its name atop the Los Angeles arena for 20 years. Neither party revealed how much more Staples will pay to lock up the rights for good, saying only that it was a fee previously agreed upon in their contract…
