Big Ten Network Boosts Streaming Commitment

This fall, the Big Ten Network is doubling its streaming efforts. After offering 100 live events online a year ago, the network has committed to streaming at least 200 Olympic-sports events this year on BigTenNetwork.com, produced by students on each campus. The network touts the events as HD-quality, since they will be produced using HD-equipped flypacks purchased specifically for this initiative.

At Arkansas State, Students Power the Scoreboards — and Their Careers

In 2001, the Arkansas State University athletic department purchased and installed video boards in its football stadium and basketball arena. To fill the boards with content, the athletic department embarked on a partnership with the department of radio and television, so that students could learn to operate the boards. Eight years later, Arkansas State students run all the in-arena production operations from a dedicated mobile-production truck and, in the process, are working themselves into full-time jobs in the production business.

Oklahoma State Students Take Their Show on the Road, Wirelessly

Oklahoma State University’s Sports Media Club has morphed from an extracurricular activity into a full-blown remote-production enterprise, and the students are upgrading their equipment accordingly. In addition to producing video-board productions in venues on campus, the OSU students are now doing a five-camera shoot for the Daktronics video board installed at Stillwater High School’s $35 million football complex — and they have turned to wireless technology to do that.
