CBS Relies on Tiger Effect, Clean Coverage for PGA Championship

Last weekend, as Tiger Woods rallied for a come-from-behind win at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, plenty of golf fans returned to their TV sets. This weekend, for golf’s final major of the season, CBS Sports will feed off that energy to produce a clean-cut broadcast of the 2009 PGA Championship — hopefully enhanced, once again, by the “Tiger Effect.”

Villa Park, home of Premier League club Aston Villa, has been dropped as one of the soccer venues for the London 2012 Olympics, organizers said this week. The club was “unable to commit fully to hosting matches” during the preliminary rounds of the competition as construction work was planned at the Birmingham-based stadium, the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) said in a statement. The venue, with a seating capacity of around 42,600, has previously staged soccer internationals and domestic FA Cup semifinals…
