NASCAR is moving its headquarters to a new building this summer and by the boxes are unpacked, the company’s workflow will be entirely digital. As part of the move, NASCAR is digitizing all of its tape archives, relying on the DIVArchive system from Front Porch Digital to get it done.

NBA Expands SGI Ties

Digitizing every frame of footage ever filmed by the NBA is no small task, but at NAB, data processing giant SGI proved that it is not only up to the task, but it has exceeded expectations. SGI has announced a multiyear extension of its relationship with the NBA to expand the NBA Digital Media Management system (DMM), allowing the League to accelerate its digital archiving process.

Snell & Wilcox Kahuna finding success stateside; is sports far behind?

The Snell & Wilcox Kahuna production switcher continues to gain traction in the local TV market as station groups like Raycom Media and Sinclair Broadcast transition to the board for future HD operations. That growing popularity could lay the groundwork for a move into sports production trucks as it will give the U.S. market an important component in embracing the Kahuna: technical directors who are comfortable working with the system. At least a dozen of the systems will be used at the Beijing Olympics.

Sony Creative Software adapts Blu-ray to platforms
Sony Creative Software (SL12413) has combined its efforts with Ensequence by integrating Blu -ray java technology into their interactive platforms. On-Create utilizes “Blu-print” which enables disc authors to drag and drop and interactive environment into Blu-ray. “This is the birth of a new market,” says Matthew Brohn, product manager for Sony Creative Software.

JVC supports Avid, native recording cameras on show floor
JVC unveiled on the show floor, the MR-HD200U. The camera combines solid state memory and long length hard disk recording. The MR-HD200U is a camera-mounted media recorder that attaches directly to any of JVC’s ProHD 200 Series camcorders. The MR-HD200U records on Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) solid state memory.

SES Americom expands IP PRIME HD channels with Cisco
Cisco today announced that SES AMERICOM is using Cisco MPEG AVC high-definition (HD) encoders to launch 40 additional HD channels on its IP-PRIME Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service. IP-PRIME is an end-to-end, turnkey entertainment distribution service that enables rural local exchange carriers (RLECs) in North America to offer a full and diverse menu of hundreds of SD and HD television channels to their subscribers.
