Sports-centric NAB attendees will want to put two items on their checklist for today. First, SVG editorial director Ken Kerschbaumer and Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Charles Morgan will discuss the IMS move to HD at 1 p.m. in Sony's booth (SU906). And at 4 p.m. in the content theater (Central Hall 1060) the NBA and Fox Sports Southwest will discuss the recent Dallas Mavericks game that was shot in 3D HD.

Beijing Olympic Broadcasting gears up with Panasonic
Michael Phelps won’t be alone in his quest to dominate the Beijing Olympics as Panasonic, courtesy of a wide ranging deal with the IOC, the Beijing Organizing Committee and Beijing Olympic Broadcasting (BOB) will supply approximately 100 P2 HD and DVCPRO-HD camcorders, 250 DVCPRO-HD, P2HD, and DVCPRO50 studio decks, and more than 1,500 monitors.

Harris, LG bring PPV, program guides, and more to MPH mobile video platform

Harris Broadcast Communications is introducing more than 64 new products this year but advances in the company’s MPH (Mobile Pedestrian and Handheld) technology along with LG Electronics that should excite TV sports networks and leagues. The system uses a small slice of a TV station’s DTV signal to deliver broadcast-quality content to mobile devices and will now have the ability to offer PPV services, VOD, a program guide, and dynamic advertising thanks to EXPWAY.

JVC previews ProHD hard disk recording; GY-HD20UB is 720p/1080i switchable

JVC Professional Products Company today introduced the new 720p and 1080i signal selectable GY-HD200UB ProHD camcorder and is also previewing the next generation of file-based recording that combines affordable solid-state memory and long hard-disk recording times. The MR-HD200U is a new camera-mounted media recorder that attaches directly to any of JVC's award winning ProHD 200 Series camcorders.

Harris NewsForce game for sports productions; new Inscriber G7 offers fast graphics

NAB marks the rollout of the complete Harris NewsForce HD/SD newsroom and sports production product family as well as the launch of the Harris Inscriber G7 integrated broadcast graphics system. Tim Thorsteinson, Harris Broadcast Communications president, says the company expects revenues for 2007 to top out around $650 million, more than doubling the company’s revenues in 2004, prior to a spate of acquisitions that transformed the company into one that offers everything from signal management equipment to traffic and billing systems. And a new interoperability lab promises that customers can rest assured that a new Harris-based infrastructure works properly not only within the Harris product family but also with third-party products. “This allows integrators to more easily install systems and put them together,” says Thorsteinson.

IBM looks to improve digital media storage via MCF for Media
IBM ( NAB booth SU-3614) has introduced IBM Management Complexity Factor for Media, what the company calls the first media-industry specific methodology and toolset designed to dramatically improve digital media storage environments.
