KCAL, NESN tap NMT, Bexel to provide services for historic MLB telecast from L.A. Coliseum

National Mobile Television (NMT) played a key role in the KCAL Los Angeles and NESN broadcasts of an MLB pre-season game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox held at the L.A. Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The game marked the 50th anniversary of the Brooklyn Dodgers move to the West Coast, and more than 115,000 fans packed the park. The Dodgers played in the famed Coliseum from 1958 to 1961. NMT has been working on the project since February.

BBC Completes sale of OB fleet, team to SIS

The BBC has completed the sale of the Outside Broadcasts division ("BBC Outside Broadcasts") of its wholly-owned commercial subsidiary, BBC Resources Ltd, to Satellite Information Services Ltd ("SIS"). The business and staff of BBC Outside Broadcasts will transfer to SIS as of April 1, 2008. Terms were undisclosed.

Fujinon addresses lower-cost HD needs with less-costly HD lens lineup

Fujinon will introduce a more cost-effective line of ENG lenses for an HD market segment that continues to move to smaller-scale (and lower-cost) sporting events. "While there is great demand for our HA premier Series, many customers want a high-quality HD ENG lens at a lower price point, and the new ZA products, our Select Series, fit the bill," says Thom Calabro, Fujinon national sales manager for the Americas.

Prism Sound acquires SADIE digital audio workstations

The SADiE brand of digital audio workstations (DAWs), used widely by the BBC and other TV and radio broadcasters, has been bought out by Prism Sound, a manufacturer of recording, digital to analogue and analogue to digital conversion and mastering devices for the recording and broadcast markets. The acquisition includes the business and all intellectual property rights of Studio Audio and Video Limited, the former owner of SADiE, which went into administration on 15th February.

Setanta Sports taps Michael for new media role

Setanta Sports has appointed a director of new media to develop the internet and mobile platforms as outlets for its coverage of football, boxing and Gaelic games. The newly created role is filled by Stephen Michael, who joins from LFC TV, the media and e-business operation of leading English Premier League football team Liverpool FC.

O21 Television finds right stroke for Oxford-Cambridge University Boat Race

The Oxford-Cambridge University Boat Race, among the most English of all sporting events, hit a UK television audience peak of 7.6 million on Saturday, the highest number of viewers since ITV took over coverage in 2005. Broadcast facilities for ITV Sport were supplied by outside broadcast company 021 Television, with engineering support by Omni TV and specialist equipment from Camera Corps. Each boat was fitted with two Hitachi KPD8 miniature cameras, one with an image stabilizer mounted on the stern a meter above the crew, the other focusing on the cox. Both coxes were fitted with radio mics so that their exhortations to the rowers could be heard.

Baseball Expands Its Web Presence to China

Baseball fans in China will be able to see highlights, scores, photographs, statistics and some games on a new Web site in their language developed by BroadWebAsia under a licensing agreement with the Internet division of Major League Baseball.

 
NAB Says Unlicensed Devices Are Striking Out

The National Association of Broadcasters said Friday that the news that the Federal Communications Commission would no longer test a Microsoft device being used to determine the feasibility of sharing digital-TV spectrum with unlicensed wireless devices was the third strike against the devices, while defenders of the devices said it was all part of the testing process.
