BC Hydro Position: Aboriginal Relations Coordinator

Number of Positions: 3 (F/T Regular, F/T Temporary – 1 Year, Full-time Temporary – 2 Year)

Are you interested in breaking new ground and working in an area where there is not a “how to book”? Then this opportunity with BC Hydro’s Generation Line of Business will appeal to you.  We are looking for individuals who are interested in managing a range of First Nations strategies, policies and initiatives for Generation while ensuring maximization of commercial performance.  Come join the Sustainability Team in Generation.
 
DUTIES:
 
•         Leading consultation processes with First Nations;
•         Representing BC Hydro at major negotiations with First Nations and on project teams and/or external committees;
•         Coordinating, directing, overseeing and assisting corporate and cross-SBU committees participating in projects, programs and strategies affecting Aboriginal Peoples;
•         Planning, developing and implementing approved programs, policies and strategies and following up to assess the effectiveness of approved programs and intervenes to make program adjustments or revisions;
•         Developing reports, making significant recommendations and providing expert advise to various levels of management including senior decision makers on a variety of subjects related to this initiative;
•         Managing administrative, support, research and/or contract staff; and
•         Establishing and maintaining contact with government and professional organizations.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
•         Political science, sociology, education and/or business/commerce knowledge is typically acquired through completion of a university degree in one or more of these subject areas.
•         A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience at a planning and development level with at least two (2) years involvement with Aboriginal People and issues, and management experience.
•         A well developed awareness of native culture and an understanding of the changing role of First Nations within the province is required.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
 
•         Demonstrated proficiency in the common Desktop PC applications is required.
•         A well-developed awareness of First Nations communities, political organizations, historical and current issues and relations with BC Hydro and their potential to affect Hydro’s business operations is required.
•         The preferred candidates will bring experience working with First Nations on major project consultations and accommodation negotiations as well as superior analytical abilities, interpersonal skills and experience in strategic thinking.
•         Experience is required in establishing strong positive working relationships with team members, key clients and stakeholders.
•         Extensive driving and overnight travel to various locations throughout the province is required. Some off-paved road driving and meetings in non-standard meeting rooms at First Nations’ offices.
