Website for Urban Aboriginal Youth - Sharing opportunities, culture, knowledge and respect

Seasons Greetings from the new RedWAY (Website for Aboriginal Youth) team!

We are honoured to call the First Nations Employment Society our home as we develop this website project. The RedWAY team is working hard to create an interactive website and e-zine to share news, information and events relevant to Urban Aboriginal Youth living in the Greater Vancouver region.

Our goal is to provide Urban Aboriginal Youth with an easy to use site to access information that they need to survive and thrive in our community. Youth Advisory Councils (YAC's) will be responsible for gathering contact names, links, and upcoming events for their section of the website - so that our site will always be the most current, culturally-relevant and complete one-stop-shop for every Aboriginal Youth coming to or living in Greater Vancouver region.

"Our Aboriginal Youth are eager to find and sort information fast - and they crave personalized updates on events or job postings that THEY think are important," states Cree youth entrepreneur, Janine Island. Janine's company is called Indigenous Dynamics Plus (ID+), and they will be the Project Coordinators as website development partners. ID+ currently manages a large portfolio of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal public and private sector websites. Their edgy style and positive energy combine well with 25 years of web design, graphics and database-driven websites. Their focus on new media technologies will ensure that www.redwaybc.ca will be current and unique. Maybe most importantly, this website will be developed and maintained by Urban Aboriginal Youth for Urban Aboriginal Youth.

Upon its launch on March 31st, 2004, this website will be the most comprehensive guide for Aboriginal youth across BC. We are grateful to these organizations for their commitment to supporting this unique, interactive Project to help connect Aboriginal Youth to current services and future opportunities:
• Human Resource Development Canada
• Western Economic Diversification
• Heritage Canada
• Health Canada

The Project has a working name of RedWAY BC, (Website for Aboriginal Youth), and has registered domain the name www.redwaybc.ca - so check out the site in January for Project updates, news releases, logo contest information and a Member sign in page...

Until next month, enjoy a safe, healthy and happy holiday season.
C U in 2004!
