Fleet Deploys New On-board
Spill Reporting System

by Tom Moses

Pottle’s Transportation of Bangor, Maine, a long-time Spill Center client, has launched an on-board spill reporting system in its fleet of 109 company tractors and 440 trailers. The new system enables a driver to quickly fill out a pre-formatted electronic spill message and transmit it directly from the truck to provide authorities with rapid notification and details of a spill.

Mandatory E-Manifest
Boosts Border Security

by Tom Moses

The Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) electronic truck manifest system now being implemented at land border crossings by the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), promises to improve homeland security while reducing port processing time for carriers and avoiding the need to enter the same data multiple times.

Under ACE, carriers are required to transmit cargo information to CBP before arriving at ports of entry. These E-manifests can be filed using an electronic transponder either by Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) or via the Internet, using the web-based ACE Secure Data Portal.
