Behind the scenes, Michelle Wolting helps keep SOS humming.
Contact center managers and other clients of SOS don’t often get to meet Wolting, but she’s one of those behind-the-scenes people who help maintain the company’s great reputation.
“Michelle’s official title of Sales Assistant only hints at the scope of her work,” says CEO Gia McNutt. “When an account manager needs a proposal to present to a prospective client, Wolting is one of the people who helps create it. She gathers detailed information from both the account manager and the prospect, and puts the pieces together for a quote.”
When SOS is ready to start implementing a client’s project, Wolting serves as an internal point of contact with the SOS project managers who will get the new systems up and running, making sure all the right equipment is in stock and available for the project timeline to continue as planned.
“After we implement a client’s project, we go into the client-service arena,” Wolting says. The client might need to purchase headsets, phones and other equipment. Wolting makes it happen. Often the clients call or e-mail her directly with questions or lists of needs.
"Michelle is like a 'blueprint' for a perfect teammate," adds McNutt. "She is simply one of a kind. She always provides more than requested or required, and her attention to detail is incredible."
In her two years with SOS, Wolting has learned a lot about contact center infrastructure, data systems and IP technology. Her formal training is in marketing and management. She came to SOS right after graduating from California State University, Sacramento in December 2005.
“It’s been really exciting. Everyone here really has a team attitude in terms of helping everyone out. It has been really fast-paced from my perspective,” she says.
Wolting’s marketing training hasn’t gone to waste. Even as a full-time Sales Assistant, she helps the marketing department prepare lists, get direct mailings out the door, and implement marketing campaigns. When the new fiscal year gets under way, she’ll be moving over to the Marketing Department full-time.
“I don’t know that there will be a hard stop from the Sales Assistant position,” she says. SOS has brought on three new Sales Assistants, partly to replace Wolting and a co-worker who are moving into new slots. “I’ve been their main point of training over the last few months.”
As if there aren’t enough new things to tackle, Wolting and her boyfriend have purchased a house this past summer. It’s Wolting’s first time as a homeowner, and she was able to get into a first-time homebuyer program just before the market changed.
“We worked a killer deal and we love having our own space to call ‘home’,” she said.
