Topic:  Marketing a Nationwide Retail Operation
 
A leading group of marine retailers got together 40 years ago in an industry that was mostly independent and family-owned.  They began to standardize the approach to policies and practices, offering consumers consistent pricing, service, and reliability.  MarineMax is now the world's largest recreational boat dealer with over 60 locations in 13 states, offering such well known brands as Sea Ray, Boston Whaler, and Hatteras Yachts.  MarineMax is now on the New York Stock Exchange and has recently more than doubled in size. 
 
Dawna Stone is the CMO for MarineMax.  A graduate in marketing and finance from U.C. Berkley and with an MBA from the Anderson Graduate School at UCLA, she worked as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley before moving to Deloitte Consulting.  She became President and GM of PR*Nutrition and then Senior VP of Active.com, a company partially owned by TicketMaster.  There she was overseer for day-to-day operations, including marketing, sales, product management, technology, and customer service.  With MarineMax, she is responsible for all marketing and advertising for the company.
