If there is one sure thing with investing it is the raw fact that once consensus public opinion about the future of anything financial becomes a “given” or universally accepted, it NEVER happens. Even the smart guys can get swept up in the moment. Today Warren Buffet and his famous Berkshire Hathaway, reduced their painful bet against the US dollar made over a year ago. I can clearly remember last Thanksgiving taking calls from individuals who also wanted to get into currency trading. Currency trading was probably a misnomer because the only trade on anyone’s mind was shorting the US dollar. Today the US Dollar index ($USD) is one of the best performers out there up 12% YTD. So, let’s take a look at a few other “given” public assumptions that have the potential to shock everyone in the near future.
