The List with Feature, or the LWF, as the SchoolRooms™
content team likes to call it, has various components that can be added in or
left out as they suit the content. These features are content module title,
featured-item title, featured item summary, image, list entry and news item. With
the flexibility of this module, you pick the look and feel of your information!
To illustrate this idea, let’s pretend that we are doing a
unit on Pluto and its demotion to “dwarf planet.” To begin, we could use the
LWF to showcase this topic as a simple factoid with one Web resource, such as a
“Did You Know?” or “What’s That?”
We can give our module a main title (content module title)
called “Ninth Planet No Longer?”
This
main title does not have to be entered, but it is advised in order to grab your
user’s attention. Next, we can add in (also optional) the featured-item title.
This tells the user what the topic will be about specifically. In this case,
we’ll put “Pluto.” The third item we will add for a bare-bones LWF is the
featured item summary. We can make it short and simple, with just a few sentences,
or a full paragraph for in-depth information.
Once you have your text, you can leave this module just the
way it is, or you can add the following items to spice it up or make it more
interactive:
- Images:
The content team sizes the LWF as small or large. The small LWF tends to
go as the second module in the middle column of the page, or on the side
column on the right. The large LWF generally appears at the top of the
middle column. The large LWF image is sized at 154x187, and the small LWF
at 76x108.
- News
Items: Now that you’ve added some color, how about more content? The LWF
has the capability for linking up to six URLs. You can add in a URL to
link to the featured-item title. You can also add a list of related
topics, called news items, to the bottom of the module. Here, we might add
in links to information on the history of Pluto as a planet, the other eight
planets, other dwarf planets and moons and much more!
Here’s a tip the content team employs when creating an LWF:
If the field is starred to designate it is a required field, but you do not want any information there,
just hit the space bar and that will “trick” the Builder into recognizing it.
