ALA Annual Activities at the SirsiDynix Booth

SirsiDynix has some exciting activities planned for the ALA Annual Conference, including SirsiDynix Institute and TechTalk Live! events and the Building Better Communities Awards ceremony. These events will take place at the SirsiDynix booth in the exhibit hall (Booth #3747).  The live events require no registration, and you may attend as many as you’d like.

SirsiDynix Institute Events

Stephen Abram, chief strategist of the SirsiDynix Institute, will present “Bigger Brains for Libraries: Increasing Our Capacity to Learn and Adapt!” at the booth on Saturday, June 23, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. and on Monday, June 25, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

This event is a quick and inspiring pep talk regarding Web 2.0 filled with easy, proven techniques to get yourself on board with technology trends and inspire others in your organization.

TechTalk Events

Product experts from SirsiDynix will present TechTalk seminars on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, featuring such subjects as connecting with K-12 communities and topics related to the new Rome technology platform.



The Rome-related seminars include:

  • “An Overview of Rome: The New Technology Platform from SirsiDynix,” with Berit Nelson, SirsiDynix vice president of technical product management. The seminar will be held twice, first on Sunday, June 24, at 9:30 a.m., and then on Monday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m.
  • Rome Technical Services Overview” will be Sunday, June 24, at 3:30 p.m. and on Monday, June 25, at 3 p.m.
  • Rome Public Services Overview” will be Sunday, June 24, and Monday, June 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m. each day.

TechTalk seminars featuring other topics include:

  • “Connecting Libraries with K-12 Communities,” Sunday, June 24, 1:30 p.m., and Tuesday, June 26, 1 p.m.
  • “Introducing SirsiDynix Digital Library,” Monday, June 25, 1:30 p.m.
  • “Providing Content in Context,” Tuesday, June 26, 9:30 a.m.
  • “What Can Director’s Station Do for You?” Tuesday, June 26, 11 a.m.

Building Better Communities Awards

On Sunday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m., you are invited to attend the SirsiDynix Building Better Communities Awards ceremony at the booth. Six libraries from around the world will be announced as award recipients for outstanding contributions they have made to their communities through technology. Each of these libraries will receive US$10,000. About 100 libraries from around the world qualified this year for consideration. An independent panel selected 15 finalists before narrowing the field down to six recipients.
