Latest Unicorn Developments
by Berit Nelson, vice president, Technical Product Management

Here are the latest developments in Unicorn:

The Unicorn patch cluster process is well underway, with more than 25 customers taking advantage of the first patch cluster within three days of its availability. Additional patch clusters will be available for sites running Unicorn Version GL3.1 or higher every 4 to 6 weeks.

  • SchoolRooms progress continues, with several sites moving towards production. We anticipate that initial sites will go live in the first two weeks of October.
  • Rooms/EPS Version 2.2 is in the final stages of internal development and will move to beta in November 2006. Version 2.2 includes many “parity” features with respect to the current iBistro, iLink, and Web2 interfaces, including support for “Try These Too” categories, and support for “Find it Fast/Kids Library.”
  • Libraries running Central Search will gain a new option in October. Central Search now offers additional search categorization in cooperation with Vivisimo. These new capabilities are included at no extra charge and offer faceted searching geared to improving the discovery process.
  • SirsiDynix Technical Product Management staff have conducted Webex reviews of several features scheduled for GL3.2 with a variety of libraries. These sessions have garnered helpful feedback on developments, including Family Card support, updates to Demand Managed, and support for Patron Credits.
  • The PocketCirc beta continues with release of a new version planned for fall of 2006.
  • With the GL3.1 Patch Cluster and the latest update to GL3.0 WorkFlows Client for Java, support for Macs has been expanded to the new Intel-based Macs.
