Unicorn and Horizon/Corinthian Updates

Here are the latest updates for Unicorn and Horizon 8.0/Corinthian:

Unicorn

·          ISBN-13 - There was a flurry of activity during August. Four webinars on the topic were hosted with overall attendance exceeding 250 people. It appears that more sessions are warranted, so we are in the process of making a recording of the presentation. Once completed, it will be available for viewing on the Client Care Web site. More information on all ISBN-13 issues can be found at: http://www.sirsi.com/uhtbin/custinfo/Products/Unicorn/Faqs/cat13digitisbn.html

·          On another ISBN note, the ISBN-13 patch for version GL3.0 has been released, so download it at your convenience.

·          GL3.1 for Windows has been released. All platforms are now released.

·          The customer “self-patch” process will be rolled out shortly with the first GL3.1 patch cluster coming out by the end of the summer.

·          Rooms/EP2 2.2 is projected to go to beta in early fall.

·          A new version of PocketCirc is in its first round of beta. This version will support patron searching and the ability to check item status. Please note that when released, it will only be available for use with GL3.1 or higher.

·          SirsiDynix is pleased to announce the appointment of Carol Stennett to the position of Product Manager for Search Technology. This newly created position will have Carol managing all of the Serial Solutions products, including Central Search, Article Linker, Muse SingleSearch and Sirsi Resolver. Carol has been with SirsiDynix for over three years, so many of you may already know her.

·          A series of webinars entitled e-Learn it! Online courses available 24/7 will be held in late August and September. The webinars will focus on what the product is, how it benefits your patrons, how it works, and how to integrate it into your current e-Library interface. The webinar will also be recorded and made available from the Client Care Web page. Check the Client Care page for specific times and any dates.

Horizon 8.0/ Corinthian:

Horizon 8.0, the beta release for SirsiDynix’s new Horizon and Corinthian product lines, is in production at six customer sites. Modules in use include Circulation, Cataloging, Information Portal, Acquisitions, and Serials.

Horizon Version 8.1 will be released this fall. In anticipation of the 8.1 release, Horizon 8’s SIP2-based PocketCirc software will go to beta in August. PocketCirc supports online and offline checkout and checkin on PocketPC devices. PocketCirc provides a convenient way not only to handle offline circulation, but also allows staff to expand checkout services during busy periods without having to make space for a dedicated circulation workstation. Bookmobiles also benefit via this convenient device that can support both online and offline circulation. Future versions of PocketCirc will include inventory and patron registration capabilities.

Version 8.1 also includes a number of other highly anticipated capabilities. Debt Collect reports will be available for libraries that use Unique Management’s debt/materials collection services. In addition, telephone messaging will be provided via the Edify and Talking Tech solutions.

Corinthian users will also welcome the ability to edit records in a batch using the MARC Batch Editor. This allows staff members to make batch changes to MARC records from a MARC List, to certain record ID’s, or to the entire database. Staff users can also search for records using an advanced searching mechanism called Advanced Searching that allows users to query the DB without knowing SQL

Horizon/Corinthian Version 8 includes APIs that will allow customers to develop customized routines to adapt to local workflows and interactions between Horizon and other local systems. SirsiDynix staff are currently preparing for customer training later this year.
