SirsiDynix Partners with Queens Library, Toronto Public Library, and Prairie Area Library System

SirsiDynix is partnering with two of the largest public libraries in the world and with a U.S. mega consortium: Queens Library, Toronto Public Library, and Prairie Area Library System.

SirsiDynix and Queens (N.Y.) Library are expanding their partnership to provide the people of Queens and the broader library community with innovative technologies, services, resources and opportunities. The first major step in this expanded partnership involves Queens Library’s investment in a range of new SirsiDynix strategic solutions for public libraries, including the Horizon Library Management System (featuring Horizon 8.0 and Horizon Information Portal), URSA 4.0 for resource-sharing, Web Reporter for standard and customized reports, and the EnvisionWare Enterprise eCommerce Suite.

Through the partnership, SirsiDynix and Queens Library will work closely to enhance SirsiDynix’s current technology offerings and collaborate on further innovations, which Queens Library and other library organizations can use to be the best community resource for meeting educational, informational, cultural and recreational needs.

“At Queens Library, we believe that libraries are fundamental in empowering people to take charge of their lives, their governments and their communities,” said Director Thomas W. Galante. “Queens Library plays an essential role in our community. To ensure that access to knowledge and information will be equitably available to all, we believe we must be an active partner in the development and implementation of industry-leading technology provided by SirsiDynix. Both Queens Library and SirsiDynix understand and value technology’s place in achieving our joint objectives of bringing knowledge to and enriching the lives of our community.”

Toronto Public Library in Toronto, Canada, has also selected SirsiDynix Horizon 8.0 as its next library management system. Toronto Public Library will also install Horizon Information Portal, and SirsiDynix Director’s Station™ business intelligence tool.

Queens Library, with 18.9 million items in circulation and in-person attendance of 14.3 million people, ranks among the highest circulations of any U.S. public library system. Queens Library has 63 locations, plus six adult learning centers. Toronto Public Library is North America’s busiest public library system. Every week more than 325,000 people visit its 99 branches and borrow more than half a million items.

Also, the Prairie Area Library System (PALS) has selected the SirsiDynix Unicorn® Library Management System. PALS will also install SirsiDynix Enterprise Portal Solution™ (EPS), SirsiDynix Rooms™ content management system, SirsiDynix Resolver™ OpenURL linking tool, SirsiDynix SingleSearch federated search tool, Director’s Station, and SirsiDynix PocketCirc™ handheld circulation tool.

The new system serves 365 member libraries located in all or parts of 26 counties in northern Illinois and eastern Iowa. When the new system goes live in April 2007, it will have 95 online libraries and 219 libraries. Total circulation will exceed 9 million and holdings 8 million.
