From the U.S. Joint Forces Command’s Joint Warfighting Center in Norfolk, Virginia, Joint National Training Capability personnel track the activity of live, virtual and constructive forces taking part in the western range complex horizontal exercise. Although only in the pre-initial operating capability stage of development, evaluators are pleased with the Joint National Training Capability’s premiere, which took place during an exercise at the end of last month. The event verified the value of the capability, which will help all of the military services by enabling them to train in a joint environment.

A recent experiment by   DISA revealed that, by removing barriers to sharing radar data between U.S. Army Patriot missile systems and platforms such as this U.S. Navy cruiser, target acquisition and kill ratios were increased. Network-centric warfare methodology is beginning to extend beyond sensors and weapons systems. By linking communications and logistics support networks across traditional service boundaries, the Defense Department is creating a fully integrated system for sharing critical operational data among commanders.
