The fast-paced nature of military missions and growing public expectation for quicker response to disasters is causing the people in charge of these operations to seek out more flexible and responsive networking capabilities. Optical networking—one way to meet this demand—will be the topic of discussion at
SIGNAL Magazine’s webinar, December 19 at noon EST.
During the one-hour Web session, subject matter experts will explain the basics of optical networking, sharing information about recent advances in the field that now enable high-performance, cost-effective connectivity. The discussion will include case studies that demonstrate implementation of these technologies particularly as it applies to government agencies.
Topics of the webinar, sponsored by
Ciena Corporation, will include how optical networking technologies are supporting emerging architectures, as well as how organizations can provide the capacity to support bandwidth-intensive applications while still ensuring network availability. In addition, speakers will share their views about the capabilities that optical networking technologies support and how agencies can use a single adaptive backbone to support all applications between multiple sites.
Dan Getachew, chief technology officer, Ciena Government Systems, will be among the webinar speakers. His experience with optical networking includes his position as a senior line manager for Ciena’s core transport products. The products are a component of the company’s control plane, a suite of signaling and routing protocols enabling an optical network to react to service requests by provisioning network resources automatically.
