Guarding bits and bytes as they ride the airwaves is akin to putting a force field around the wind and rain of a hurricane. But wireless networks are essential to staying in touch and keeping on top of important matters in a world on the move. Although ensuring the security of wireless local area networks (WLANs) is challenging, it is not impossible if organizations understand the requirements and how to put the right controls into place.
Members of AFCEA International and readers of SIGNAL Magazine are invited to tap into the knowledge of experts in this field from the comfort of their desks. “Implementing Secure WLAN: How to Meet Stringent DoD Policy Requirements” is the first in a series of SIGNAL-sponsored webinars that will focus on the topics that most concern information technology professionals. The first one-hour session, which takes place at noon EDT on August 29, will feature presentations from industry specialists with WLAN experience in both the government and private sectors. Topics include developing a wireless network security checklist; understanding the requirements to meet government standards and certifications; and providing appropriate access controls to 802.1x and 802.11i networks.
Bob Ackerman, editor in chief, SIGNAL Magazine, will moderate the webinar’s presentations and discussion. Featured speakers include Merv Andrade, chief technology officer, Aruba Networks; Brad Mack, Army program manager, LTI Data; and Brian Quinn, subject matter expert for secure network access solutions, advanced technology group, Juniper Networks.
Andrade is an expert in WLAN security and an active and voting member of IEEE 802.11 working groups. Mack has helped his company provide secure wireless solutions for the U.S. military services. And Quinn, who joined Juniper through the company’s acquisition of Funk Software late last year, has worked with Fortune 1000 companies in the federal and industry marketplace.
Everyone interested in attending the free webinar must register. An e-mail reminder will be sent before the event with instructions about how to participate. For information about this webinar or on participating in future webinars, contact Marsha Carpenter.
