Back to school time churns up anxiety in the minds and wallets of students and parents. Not only do students have to worry about the course load, the stress of a new environment and their grades, but they also know that their success depends on access to current, and often costly, technology. The computer today is as important a back-to-school tool as the marble composition book, the typewriter and the slide rule were not so long ago. Although the modern desktop, and its requisite peripherals, will outlast and overshadow many once standard school supplies, its affect on the budget will also outlast and overshadow many other needs.
AFCEA members can reduce the impact of buying or upgrading technology through two member purchase programs. The association has teamed with Dell and Hewlett-Packard to provide members of the association with special discounts and offers not available to the general public. These programs, while especially helpful in preparation for academic endeavors, are available year around.
The Dell-AFCEA discount is 5 percent on U.S. purchased Dell Dimension desktops or Inspiron notebooks.
The Hewlett Packard-AFCEA discount includes savings on computers as well as on printers and other peripherals.
This program came about as part of AFCEA’s initiative to provide affordable training and discounted products for its membership.
