First presented in 1984, the AFCEA Educational Foundation’s Award for Distinguished Service to Education recognizes that individual who has demonstrated exceptional service and a unique dedication to the mission of the Educational Foundation and/or the educational programs of AFCEA chapters. Nominations are due each year by December 1. The recipient is selected by the foundation’s board of directors at their January meeting. Past honorees represent 13 AFCEA chapters, three AFCEA Professional Development Center instructors and other individuals who have contributed significantly to the growth and success of the foundation.
This year, the foundation was pleased to honor Maryann Pucilowski at TechNet International with the 2004 Distinguished Service to Education Award. Serving as the chapter vice president for scientific and engineering careers the past four years, Pucilowski leads the chapter’s education program. She manages a diverse agenda of scholarships, grants to schools, two science fair competitions, grants for teaching tools, a grant for the local Boy Scouts of America chapter, and the PEER (Professionals Encouraging Engineering Resources) program. Under Pucilowski’s leadership, the chapter’s education program has been expanded to more fully engage the chapter’s Young AFCEANs in activities such as a best paper review, science fair judging and a mentoring program.
Pucilowski has volunteered for the Peace Corps in Mexico and worked as a bi-lingual Spanish/English teacher in the Lakewood, New Jersey school district. During her tenure with the Monmouth County Engineering Department, she worked in bridge design and received commendation for successfully applying for and receiving tens of millions of dollars in grants for bridge repair from the state of New Jersey.
Congratulations Maryann!
