New Products

Portable Laptop Antenna

This high performance wireless antenna is designed to extend the range of laptop and notebook computer wireless cards. The 2.4-gigahertz ROVER24-5RD can be mounted on the left or right side of a laptop’s screen to place the antenna in close proximity to the computer’s wireless adapter. It also can be mounted on a desktop monitor for desktop applications. For more information, visit www.pawconnex.com/products/rover24-5rd.shtml.

Project Management Software
Designed to allow managers to track all changes on a project, this software program records all status changes, including justification, impact, cost and timelines. Project Administrator 3.3 integrates with Microsoft Project for scheduling and manages risks, issues, action items, scope variations, documents, quality assurance and benefit delivery. The software also tracks budget and expenditures, roles and responsibilities; provides a glossary of terms; and generates weekly reports. For more information, visit www.projectperfect.com.au.

Micro-Ohmmeter
Ruggedized for industrial and field use, this low-resistance tester automatically calculates resistance measurements and accounts for variables such as ambient temperature, metal type and metal temperature coefficients. The 10A Micro-Ohmmeter Model 6250 is designed to conduct tests on both resistiveand inductive material. Users can select a variety of test modes directly from the front panel, and up to 1,500 measurements can be stored and transmitted directly to a printer or to a personal computer. For more information, visit www.aemc.com.

Mobile Communications Applications
A family of wireless communications tools intended to improve business productivity is now available. The Virtual Mobile Exchange suite includes products such as the Global Virtual Private Network, Corporate Provisioning Manager, Global Call Management, Incoming Call Screening and Universal Sources Framework. The Virtual Mobile Exchange package integrates enterprise requirements into mobile business operations. The software runs on Hewlett Packard platforms such as HP Non-Stop and HP 9000 servers with HP Open Call software. For more information, visit www.2its.com.

Sapphire and Ruby Spheres
Milled to exact specifications, tolerances and finishes, these miniature sapphire and ruby balls are produced for a variety of optical applications such as lasers and fiber optics systems. Chemically inert, these spheres also can be used in medical instruments and equipment requiring precise, wear-resistant components. For more information, visit www.melleroptics.com.

Satellite Link Accelerator

This firmware upgrade features congestion control and other acceleration tools to improve satellite connectivity over wide area networks (WANs). The SkyX version 5.0 firmware package uses the military space communication protocol standards transport protocol as an alternative to the xpress transport protocol (XTP) to transmit data over WAN links. The firmware optimizes data transfers via XTP over variable bandwidth conditions such as bandwidth on demand, full mesh and shared links. An XTP congestion control feature adjusts transmission rates automatically and dynamically to match changing bandwidth conditions. For more information, visit www.mentat.com.

E-mail Security Software
Designed to reduce the volume of unwanted messages before they enter a corporate network, this software appliance offers reduced administrative costs, network bottlenecks, e-mail infrastructure overhead and storage requirements. The manufacturer of the Mail Security 8100 series of appliances claims that its products can cut incoming spam traffic, reducing e-mail volume by 50 percent. A proprietary transmission control protocol technology stops junk e-mail at its originating servers instead of forcing an enterprise to receive and either quarantine or discard the spam. For more information, visit www.symantec.com.

Night Vision Cameras
The manufacturer of this family of cameras claims that its proprietary photocell-controlled filtering techniques eliminate problems such as focus shift and infrared bleed. The MX4 line of cameras features an LXR-type charge-coupled device to deliver a spectral response in both visible and near-infrared. Low-smear, low-streak and anti-blooming functions enhance the camera’s images. For more information, visit www.extremecctv.com.
