First Members-Only Program a Success!

As a new membership benefit, Delaware SHRM is offering members-only programs focused on professional development. The first program, Project Management for the HR Professional, was held on April 25 and sponsored by JPMorganChase. Joan Verbonitz from the CBI Group addressed thirty members and gave valuable insight on managing projects effectively and efficiently. She explained that all HR professionals have significant project management skills and don't even know it.

What defines a project and how do you manage it successfully? A project is an initiative with a defined start date and end date, identified tasks that have to be carried out, a timeframe of when they should be finished, and some idea of the resources (people, machines, etc.) that will be needed during the course of the project. Careful initial planning is one of the key factors of any successful project.

Project management is exciting as outcomes may not be readily defined, numerous activities may happen concurrently, and the course of events may change at any time. There are resources to help professionals in project management roles including the Project Management Institute (www.pmi.org), and software such as Microsoft Project.

In case you were not able to join us this time, stay tuned for our next members-only program in September!
