Chevrolet has reintroduced its much-storied Blazer nameplate as an all-new midsize crossover, offering a new iteration of Chevrolet’s classic trailblazer.
Power and performance
As standard equipment, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which Chevrolet reports produces 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque, will power the 2019 Blazer. Above that, there is an available 3.6-liter V6 engine, which outputs 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines will come paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The 2019 Blazer is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. On RS and Premier models, the available all-wheel drive is a special twin-clutch system, which helps optimize traction no matter the conditions, providing better performance in dry or wet conditions.
The 2019 Blazer comes with a number of interesting and unique features. For example, for models with a V6 engine, there is the available Hitch Guidance system to aid in aligning the Blazer’s hitch to a trailer using the rear-view camera. There is the Hitch View system, which shows a top-down view of the rear of the Blazer to complement the Hitch Guidance system.
These features also apply to comfort, such as available heated steering wheel, automatic heated/ventilated front seats and heated outboard rear seats (available on the RS trim and standard on the Premier trim).
Then, there are features that enhance convenience, like a hands-free power liftgate that projects a Chevrolet Bowtie logo (standard on the RS and Premier trims), available wireless device charging and up to six available USB ports.
At first impression, the 2019 Blazer is designed to be the most progressive version of Chevy’s crossover design. Specifically, that means the Blazer has a wide stance, high beltline and dramatically sculpted body panels for an athletic appearance. Chevrolet has promised that each model will carry unique styling cues, so each trim will have a unique grille, with more bright chrome on the Premier trim and a blacked-out theme on the sporty RS.
The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer will slot in between the Equinox and Traverse in the brand’s lineup. It will begin arriving at dealerships for test drives in early 2019.
