Vehicle Profile: 2017 GMC Sierra HD Models
Trucks that can get even the toughest job done

If you’re looking for a truck that looks as good in the country club parking lot as it does at a construction site, you should check out the Sierra HD models.

The 2017 Sierra HD Lineup—including the Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD—delivers major capability that can handle even the toughest of jobs, and you can choose from Regular, Double Cab and Crew Cab models. You can equip the Sierra HD with both gas and diesel powertrains, with maximum conventional trailer rating of 20,000 pounds and a max fifth-wheel/gooseneck trailering rating of 23,300 pounds. The Denali model, available exclusively in Crew Cab, is in a class by itself with distinctive styling levels of luxury normally reserved for upscale sedans. For those who want the most off-road capable model, you can opt for the All Terrain HD Premium Off-Road Package that adds a Rancho twin-tube shock-equipped Z71 suspension, 18-inch chrome wheels and unique exterior details.

The 2017 model gets even better with the addition of a new 6.6-liter turbo-diesel engine and the Teen Driver function that lets parents keep track of their children’s driving habits without being in the vehicle.

You can also add an available Trailering Camera system from EchoMaster® that gives improved views of a trailer and the area surrounding it. Other features you can add to the HD models include a remote locking tailgate and wireless phone charger (both standard on Denali models). HID projector beam headlights with signature GMC LED lighting come standard on all models. The available Digital Steering Assist aids in handling at low speeds, provides a more substantial feel at highway speeds and makes trailering easier, too.

The new 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel is the most powerful engine in the segment, producing 445 hp. Its 910 lb/ft of torque (almost 20 percent more than the current Duramax engine) makes easy work of even the toughest loads. Most impressive is that 90 percent of that torque is available from 1,550 RPM through 2,850 RPM.

“GMC Sierra HD trucks and the Duramax diesel have a long-established legacy of offering customers confidence-inspiring capability for the largest tasks,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing. “With the new Duramax and additional enhancements, the 2017 Sierra HD takes the combination of refinement and capability to an unprecedented level.”

The big diesel engine is improved using a next-generation redesign as well as a GM-developed control system. The benefits of the functional hood scoop design on HD models are two-fold. In addition to complementing the model’s bold appearance, it serves as part of the new vehicle air intake system that drives cool, dry air into the engine, especially helpful during trailering on steep grades. Some of the highlights of the engine include a new rocker cover, fuel system acoustical treatments and a full-length, damped steel oil pan. The engine is manufactured in Moraine, Ohio and is B20 bio-diesel compatible.

More information will be available in the coming months, so let us know if you’re interested and we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.
