Given the consumer-directed healthcare (CDH) movement underway, employers are offering new consumer-directed benefit products to their employees at a rate that is growing faster than the move into managed care plans in the 1990’s. Though the intent of these new CDH plans is admirable, the risk is that they might not realize their objective of improving the quality of healthcare while at the same time reducing its cost.
