The "Facts" about Search Engine Optimization Factors

Q: What does Relevant Content mean?
A:  To search engines, showing relevant results to user searches is crucial. Two factors are used to determine a pages relevance for a specific keyword search. 1) One page factors – these are elements of a webpage that the owner can influence and change. By including search phrases and keywords in the content of your web pages (eg:Toyota 4Runner) it will help boost your relevance for those terms in they eyes of the search engines. 2) Off page factors – this is by far the most import piece of the SEO puzzle. Think of it like a popularity contest, the Search engines determine rankings by checking the number of votes (other people linking to your site) your sites has.

If you have these two search engine optimization factors in place, then you have a good chance of ranking high in the search results.

Q:  How does that work?
A:  Let's say, for example, you want your website to appear in the search results for "Toyota Los Angeles". When a searcher types "Toyota Los Angeles" into Google's search box, Google first checks its vast index of pages to see which sites claim to be about that particular topic. Next they check to see the popularity of all the sites who seem to be about that topic. The site with the most on page relevance and popularity gets ranked 1st.

Q:  How do I get my website to show up on Page 1 instead of Page 5 for a specific keyword?
A:  By creating pages that have relevant content for the specific keyword and then getting other sites to link to your site, which increases your popularity.

Q:  Why is link popularity so important?
A:  On page factors such as meta tags and keyword frequency are easy for any website owner to manipulate, which makes determining the true relevance of a difficult for the search engines. By checking link popularity search engines rely on the entire Internet to help determine who is popular. This is much more difficult for a website owner to manipulate. Google was the first search engine to utilize link popularity as a major factor in rankings but it is now important for all of the big search engines.
