Speakers at SCIP’s European Conference

The SCIP European Conference in London, UK from 22 to 24 October will be an exciting event for CI professionals by bringing forth not only a European perspective, but a global one as well.
Richard Smart from Pfizer will present on Environmental Analysis. Through a unique case study and examples of how strategy professionals can partner with subject matter experts, Richard will show how the partnerships resulted in customer workshops and an approach to environmental analysis.
Anja Kober of Deutsche Telekom will present on Scenario Analysis to Design Early Warning Systems and Strategies. This session will demonstrate the practical application of scenario planning with a number of case studies from different industries as well as illustrate the advantages and limitations of this technique. Various software packages will be demonstrated and the impact on efficiency and productivity of using scenarios presented.
Col. John Hughes Wilson, an author and broadcaster specializing in military history, defense and intelligence matters, will present a session on ‘Business Lessons from Military Intelligence.’ He will conduct an analysis of the intelligence cycle that turns raw data into useful information about capabilities and intentions, and then brings that intelligence to the attention of the decision-makers. John will also provide historical examples from extraordinary decisions and deceptions to show how often and badly things can go wrong.
Col. Hughes Wilson is a presenter of the BBC’s “What If?” TV military history series and co-host with David Dimbleby of BBC live memorial programs. Also, he is the author of the best selling book, Military Intelligence Blunders, and co-author of the politically controversial Blindfold and Alone, the first book to have full access to the PRO”s court martial papers on the 1914-18 executions. After a full career mainly with the world of intelligence, he is an Archives Fellow of Churchill College Cambridge, the International Napoleonic Society and the RUSI in Whitehall.
As noted earlier, Dr. Ben Gilad, a leading developer of CI theory and practice, will be the Conference keynote speaker. Dr. Gilad lists many of the Fortune 100 companies as his CI consulting clients, including global market leaders in the high-tech, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, food, and energy sectors. His keynote address will certainly educate and enlighten us all.
Andrew Pollard of EMP Intelligence Services, will speak on Competitive Analysis. He will provide an introduction to some of the key techniques required when undertaking a comprehensive analysis of your competitors.
Chris West of CIS will lead a two part session on CI for New CI Professionals. The first section will focus on business professionals who wish to understand the fundamental process of transforming information into intelligence. Here you will learn how to identify your organization’s intelligence needs and establish a plan of action for collecting both primary and secondary information. Attendees will discuss sourcing, evaluating and preparing information for analysis. They will also discuss the ethical dimension within which competitive intelligence takes place.
The second half of this program will focus on analysis of information, as well as the methods, tools and techniques that may be leveraged for CI success. It will also cover the protection of your organization’s information, and tips for measuring value to your business.
Alessandro Zanasi from TEMIS will provide case studies on Text Mining: Applications for Success. These case studies from renowned companies will demonstrate the cost benefits of text mining projects. Alessandro will demonstrate the use of some data/text mining software and the tangible benefits that can be delivered to your organization. This session will conclude with an outlook of recent advances in research topics.
Robin Kirkby of Deloitte Consulting and Julia Hordle of Intelligent Resources will present on Recruiting, Training, and Managing New CI Professionals. Managers responsible for leading CI/BI teams often have limited exposure to the discipline. Participants in this dialogue will discuss challenges and solutions to developing and leading an effective team.
